The goal of the project is to educate and inform 120 teenage girls coming from vulnerable families from all regions of Moldova about their rights and responsibilities as females and as future citizens of Moldova by organizing a one-week summer camp at the end of June 2004. The camp will be organized with American Peace Corps volunteers. The camp will focus on gender roles, cultural diversity, health education, and decision-making.

Protection of Citizens’ Rights is a non-governmental organization with vast experience in publishing legal literature. The goal of the NGO is to inform the population on their rights in different fields thus building the legal knowledge of the population. Under this project the NGO intends to raise awareness on the rights of citizens to what regards the medical services in the new conditions, i.e. newly implemented medical insurance system. The organization will work together with the specialists from a specialized medical publication (Family Doctor) to produce and publish a guide that will contain questions and answers on the most frequent issues. The guide will be bilingual and will be partly distributed and partly sold in bookstores.

The NGO will create a network of junior leaders, train them, and have them solve the problems of their communities using the learned skills. The NGO will organize seminars and trainings for junior leaders, roundtables with mayors and school directors and then will try to establish a partnership among them and solve specific community problems, particularly the ones related to youth and children. Leaders will have to identify
the problems, locate funds and resources and then develop and implement mini-projects. The project will result in more informed, better prepared, and more active society members among local youths.

This project benefits from the support provided by the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, which is a voluntary coalition of nongovernmental organizations from the Republic of Moldova seeking to contribute to ensuring free, fair, transparent and democratic elections in the Parliament of Moldova. Media Agency IMPACT is member of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections. Among the main partners of the project are 16 local and regional television channels, which expressed their readiness to support activities directed towards producing 336 television programs
based on the following subjects: elections and voter education, short term and long term election monitoring, prevention of electoral violations and promotion of fair and democratic elections. This project is a premiere on the media market, as well as for the political community and for NGOs targeting electoral processes in Moldova. Seeking media opportunities to support parliamentary elections and to develop election campaigns and being deprived of access to the Company „Teleradio Moldova”, election actors will benefit, for the first time in Moldova, from media that
is both more effective and more accessible and consequently has a greater impact on voters. Audiovisual media from Moldova will be provided with technical, logistic and legal assistance and these concrete actions will directly contribute to strengthening civil society and to ensuring citizens’ participation in elections, respect of voters’ rights and the principle of equal participation of all candidates in the electoral process.
